Give us an overview and a little bit about your group.
From Damsels in Distress to Princess Warriors is a small group for women based on the book “The True Measure of a Woman” written by Lisa Bevere. The focus of the group is on seeking God’s purpose and intention for us as women, and more specifically as women in the 21st century. We are learning how we can live in that freedom in a culture that demands we fit its mold.
What was the genesis of the group, or the God-inspired idea behind starting it?
We live in a world that determines our value by our position, our possessions, whom we know, and how we look. This is not the way it is supposed to be… You will never measure up as long as you keep trying to be someone else. God’s plan for your life is good, pleasing, perfect – and yours. This is the inspiration behind it.
What do you think God is doing within your group for those who are a part of it?
He’s most definitely challenging our thinking, our assumptions, and the ways we view ourselves. He’s very much challenging us to consider how we view Him, what we think we think versus what we know we know. We’re being challenged to dive deeper into our relationship with Him, and to challenge ourselves in our self-perceptions.
How do you think God is using your group to Advance His Kingdom?
He’s bringing us into a closer relationship with Him, one based on truth and honesty with Him. Since the Kingdom starts “here”, within each one of us, He is teaching us, that by living more honestly and truthfully, we can live as He intended. This includes loving others as He intended, not as we are told to or expected to by our culture, society, and world.
