As I have been thinking about Pastor Mark’s sermon (part 1 of the “Last Words” series) this past weekend, I have been contemplating how our Bible Drills for these three weeks leading up to Easter could challenge us to greater spiritual growth and a closer walk with Jesus Christ. Ultimately, I came to the conclusion that exegeting passages of Scripture would not be as helpful as encouraging all of us – myself included – to devote these next 2.5 weeks to spending time in Scripture and allowing Jesus to speak to us directly through His own words.
When Jesus said “It is finished,” He did so with confidence that He had completed His mission. To understand and fully appreciate this statement, I want to challenge all of us to spend the next couple of weeks reading through the Gospels. Now, I realize that the four Gospels combined equal 91 chapters and a whole bunch of pages in our Bibles. It will definitely be challenging and require sacrifices in other areas of our life to read through the story of Jesus Christ and His redemptive mission during the next 18 days. But I cannot think of a better way to prepare our hearts for the celebration of Easter than to spend time hearing Him speak to us through the gospels, can you?
To help us, I have outlined a sample reading plan below. This is meant to be a guideline only - if you prefer to read at a different pace or mix up the order of the gospels, feel free to do so. And don’t beat yourself up if you cannot get through all four gospels in 2.5 weeks – I would encourage you just to spend what time you can reading the words of Christ and observing His life on this earth. I will be praying for all of you as we undertake this challenge together!
