forceful-advance.JPGWe’re about 24 hours away from Leadership Retreat. Are you ready? Our creative team and administrative team have been working around the clock to create an environment where you can connect with God and others in meaningful ways. But to get the most out of leadership retreat, you need to do a little preparation yourself.

Pray

Prayer primes our level of expectations. In In a Pit With a Lion on a Snowy Day, Pastor Mark says, “The more you pray, the higher your expectations.” Write down what want God to do for you this weekend and begin to pray about it. Perhaps you want to become better connected with other leaders or improve your relationship with your campus pastor or zone leader. Maybe there is a particular area of leadership that you want to learn more about. Your prayer might be that God would give you a bigger or clearer vision for your group or help you develop a systematic game plan or strategy for the semester or upcoming year. Or maybe it’s a prayer that the retreat will jumpstart a personal revival or help you re-prioritize spiritual growth in your own life. Regardless, spend some time praying that God will prepare you to receive everything he wants to give you this weekend.

Find a Ride

Make sure you get yourself to the retreat! If you are willing to offer a ride or need to request a ride, use the comment thread here.

We’ve posted a couple of retreat-related things here on zonegathering. Check out this post on Forceful Advance and this post from Sarah Owen on what it means to be a witness.

Meditate

I’d encourage you to spend some time meditating on the following Scriptures:

Acts 1:8: But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Matthew 16:18: Now I say to you that you are Peter (which means ‘rock’), and upon this rock I will build my church, and all the powers of hell will not conquer it.

2 Timothy 2:2: You have heard me teach things that have been confirmed by many reliable witnesses. Now teach these truths to other trustworthy people who will be able to pass them on to others.

John 15:13: There is no greater love than to lay down one’s life for one’s friends.

Sleep

Finally, I’d encourage you to get some sleep because you know you won’t get much at the retreat! Who can sleep while the games are going and that great snack table is open?

I can’t remember ever being this excited about a retreat! I believe that God is going to do some amazing things in our lives individually and corporately, and I’m looking forward to seeing you all there!
