My classes have started up again, so be prepared for more random quotes. I’m taking Spiritual Formation this semester, so we’re reading lots of great authors (Dallas Willard, Richard Foster, Henri Nouwen). First up comes Nouwen, talking about the importance of solitude in Out of Solitude:
The careful balance between silence and words, withdrawal and involvement, distance and closeness, solitude and community forms the basis of the Christian life and should therefore be the subject of our most personal attention…
To live a Christian life means to live in the world without being of it. It is in solitude that this inner freedom can grow.”
Out of Solitude is one of my favorite books by Henri Nouwen. I say one of my favorites because I haven’t finished reading all of his books, yet. He is fabulous!
