Okay, I’m supposed to be working on my homework, but I wanted to share another quote from my reading. Once again, this is from The Second Reformation by William Beckham:
“To most of us “holy history” refers either to what has happened in the past in church history or what will happen in the future when Christ returns. Seldom would we think of using the phrase holy history in reference to the present age. We are suspended in a state of second rate Christianity waiting for the important spiritual events of the second coming to take us out of this spiritually deprived age. It is a “circle the wagons” or “Scotty, beam me up!” perspective that echoes the cathedral mentality of the church. Surely God has not been caught unprepared for this time in history. God must have a way to reach out to the millions being born. Whatever God intends to do, He will do through His church…
God’s ability to make a difference in history has never depended upon the quality of His followers. It has always been God’s sovereign will and power that has redeemed man’s destructive history. Our place in God’s history is the same as all those who have gone before us. We today are instruments of God’s holy history through which He continues to redeem, renew and revolutionize.”
