Another nugget of wisdom from my seminary homework, this time from Transformational Coaching by Joseph Umidi:
“Neither man nor the devil can do anything really original. Man cannot even sin without using something God has provided and pervert[ing] its use. What is lust but the abuse of the gift of sexuality? What is gluttony but overeating? What is greed but the abuse of the power of acquisition? What is manipulation but the abuse of the gift of persuasion? Even murder is rooted in anger, which is meant to alert us to a rule that is in violation or to supply us with resolve to deal with a problem. Behind every sin there is a God-given gift being distorted.”
