Alright, so my sister and and brother-in-law Casey are having a baby in November. We are all really excited and we crazy Southerners have already begun to assign college and team loyalties to little Baby Mac. Jill Wyman mentioned that Baby Mac would need a NY Yankees cap, and this is the response that Casey sent:
Let’s get this straight right now. Our children while under our roof will not wear anything that promotes (in no certain order):
- The University of Tennessee (the only mitigating stipulation here would be obtaining a Hope Scholarship)
- The University of Notre Dame
- The University of Florida
- USC
- The New York Yankees
- The New York Mets
- The Detroit Red Wings
- The San Jose Sharks
- The Dallas Cowboys
- The Baltimore Ravens
- The New York Rangers
- The Buffalo Sabers
- The San Francisco 49ers
- The University of Miami
- Florida State
These are not up for discussion.
Items that are considered “acceptable attire”:
- The Alabama Crimson Tide
- The Atlanta Braves
- The Nashville Predators
- The Auburn Tigers (will be tolerated)
- The LSU Tigers (will be tolerated)
- The University of Southern Mississippi
- The Montreal Canadiens
- The Tennessee Titans (will be tolerated)
Teams not listed are up for discussion.
I actually found his list to be fairly generous. I’m shocked LSU is on there, but he really has no choice.
I do have a question for Casey: the Washington Nationals?

I have to tell you that as a non-southerner, i’m a little disappointed that the fastest growing sport in America receives zero attention and no love on this list while hockey gets a shout out (and what’s wrong with the Sharks!)…don’t tell me this precious child will not be making an immediate pilgrimage to the biggest, fastest, most competitive motorsports facility in the world which happens to be within THE HEART OF DIXIE and rooting on his/her favorite driver Mark Martin (AK) or Joe Nemechek (FL)?
