I’m excited to be back in the mode of writing Thursday Leadership Lessons! Big thanks to John Hasler for leading the charge during the month of May.
Today, we begin a new series in our 2007 Building Series. Last semester, we talked about Laying a Foundation that will last. Today, we begin a new series on constructing the ministry that God has called you to build.
1 Peter 2:5 says,
“And now God is building you, as living stones, into his spiritual temple. What’s more, you are God’s holy priests, who offer the spiritual sacrifices that please him because of Jesus Christ.”
Peter tells us here that we fit into God’s construction plan in two ways. First, we are living stones. We are the raw building materials that he uses to form his temple. But we are also workers and builders with him as his priests. The metaphor was also picked up and used by Paul in his letters to the churches at Ephesus and Corinth. In each of these passages, followers of Christ are described simultaneously as God’s workmanship and his workmen. We are both the building itself—a holy temple for God, and the co-workers in God’s constructionproject. We are both the building materials and the builders.
Over the next few weeks, we will talk about the following topics:
Recruiting Your Team
Building Community
Making Disciples, Part 1 (Seekers)
Making Disciples, Part 2 (Learners)
Making Disciples, Part 3 (Influencers)
Making Disciples, Part 4 (Investors)
Building Leaders
