This Friday marks the launch of a new experiment for NCC – a street evangelism ministry. No, there is not likely to be any soapbox preaching involved, but during three Friday nights in this Season of Lent, NCCers will be going out to into DC nightspots to see what conversation opportunities the Lord will open for them. The Friday Night Light group will go out in twos or threes, following the model of Luke 10:

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go. He told them, ‘The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field. Go!’” (Luke 10:1-3a)

I participated in a similar ministry in college, and, after my time as a member of the Galapagos Mission Team last August, this idea has been on my heart. The objective is neither to be confrontational nor to force the Gospel on anyone. Rather, we’re going to be looking pro-actively for opportunities the Lord arranges. We’re often tempted to think that no one really wants to talk about God or faith. Indeed, a number of people are either not interested or would prefer not to be bothered at any given time. But I believe certain individuals are at a point in their lives when they do want to talk, if only such a conversation is politely and tactfully broached. We’re going to go, be alert, and talk – we’ll see where the Lord takes it from there.

If you’re not going to see Amazing Grace on opening night, consider yourself invited to this outreach premier. It’s going to be an experiment… an adventure!

If you and/or your group are interested in participating in Friday Night Light, meet up at 7pm at Ebenezers and to let him know you’re coming. You can also check out page nine of the Atlas for more information.
