For One.

I thought we’d do something a little different for this week’s Scorecard. We are still in the Christmas season, so share your Christmas wins! What was your best Christmas gift that you gave and/or received? Or maybe you’d like to share something you feel thankful for.

For me, favorite gift received is a 4-way tie between Digging for the Truth, Season 1 (thanks, Ryan!) the director’s cut of Kingdom of Heaven (thanks Mom and Dad!), and Civil War Journal (thanks, Zempels!). I’m really enjoying my new plug-n-play Super PacMan, as well (thanks again, Ryan!).

Favorite gift given is equally tough– I really like the Josh Zempel playing cards we gave to mom and dad Zempel and the Cabot’s Tower playing cards we gave to mom Sawyer (you can make your own deck of cards on Shutterfly). I also like the Common Errors in the English Language calendar I gave to Ryan (most of our marital strife revolves around pronunciation and proper use of words, and the dictionary has proven to be our best marital counselor).

Since Ryan’s show kept running straight through Christmas week, we were unable to go home for the holidays this year. It was our first Christmas in DC. I’m so thankful that my parents were able to come up for an early Christmas. I think I’ll appreciate Christmases at home even more from now on! I’m also thankful for NCC small groups and people like Dan and Tiffani Hampton that became our family away from family on Christmas day.
Other things I am thankful for this Christmas, in no particular order: small Christmas trees, Handel’s Messiah, A Christmas Story, The Christmas Story, hot apple cider, turkey, turkey sandwiches, A Charlie Brown Christmas, Netflix, IMAX movies, macaroni and cheese, amazon.com, and friends who send faithfully send Christmas cards every year despite the fact that I am Scrooge and never send any.
So…what were YOUR wins?

  1. I thought the “original six” coffe mug you and Ryan gave me was GREAT!!!!

  2. Ooooo…..tough call! Best gifts received: An original birthday song sung to me by Christian. Partnership given to Brian by M&C (and mostly God). Hand-made chocolate covered cherries from my sister. Multiple Barnes & Noble Gift cards (a grad student’s best friend). Best gifts given: My old ibook to the kids with new software. Digital camera to Christian with a gig of memory (roughly 1000 pictures) that’s about half full now. :) A baby doll ‘pack-n-play’ for Mackenzie’s dolls that turned out to be more difficult to put together than the real ones (just the thing memories are made of)!!! lol!! :)
Simply wonderful Christmas had by all!

  3. The best gift I received was being able to see all of my family (everyone on both sides was home) and spend time with them. Other highlights including a bit of snow on Christmas Day, chocolate fondue, learning to play blackjack (but not for money!), and spending the entire first day at home in one of my mom’s nightgowns because my luggage didn’t arrive until a day after I did.

Some of my favorite gifts I gave to others include a “Wizard of Oz” votive candle holder, a pink Green Day makeup bag, “In a Pit with a Lion on a Snowy Day” (a lot of people got one of those), and this beautiful top that I couldn’t find in my size so I bought one for my sister instead. :-) As far as favorite things received, I would have to go with my Colts stuff (Dwight Freeney jersey, calendars, keychain), clothes, “Gilmore Girls” and “Prison Break” DVDs, and collection of Coconut Lime Verbena bath stuff. What a blessed Christmas!
