In case you missed it, there is a Newsweek cover story on BIlly Graham entitled “Pilgrim’s Progress.” It’s definitely worth reading to listen to a man of God reflect on his life.

Here is just one part that stood out to me:

If he had his life to live over again, Graham says he would spend more time immersed in Scripture and theology. He never went to seminary, and his lack of a graduate education is something that still gives him a twinge. “The greatest regret that I have is that I didn’t study more and read more,” he says. “I regret it, because now I feel at times I am empty of what I would like to have been. I have friends that have memorized great portions of the Bible. They can quote [so much], and that would mean a lot to me now.”

  1. I wonder if you asked, how many people in seminary just want to be like Billy Graham?
And can you imagine being his professor? You start on apologetics, and he cuts to the chase. You want to talk “real life examples”, but the main one is sitting there taking your final. No, I imagine there are plenty of profs out there that are perfectly content with a discontented Rev. Graham.
One thing seems certain though, he may not have memorized everything Jesus said, but I do think he’ll hear him say, “Well done.” And no seminary education in the world can compete with that.

  2. I am blown by the fact that Rev. Graham does not think he has ‘arrived’ yet. At his age and status, I think it could be very easy to say ‘I’ve done enough’… Isn’t this what Heather is always saying about being continuous seekers?! :)
