I just finished reading a book that’s been sitting on our shelf for months and months: The Next Generation Leader by Andy Stanley.
He walks through “the five essentials for those who will shape the future.” They are:
- Competence- Do Less, Accomplish More
- Courage- Courage Establishes Leadership
- Clarity- Uncertainty Demands Clarity
- Coaching- Coaching Enables a Leader to Go Farther, Faster
- Character- Character Determines the Leader’s Legacy
It’s a very quick read with plenty of great quotes and passages to take away. Here;s one example:
“Character is not essential to leadership…Your accomplishments as a leader will make your name known. Your character will determine what people associate with your name.”
I also have read this book and recommend it — he uses a lot of great examples and the book has an “encouraging” tone.

I started reading it, does that count?
What I read was great.
I’m currently reading “How People Grow” by Cloud and Townsend. It’s an awesome book that I highly recommend. I’ll post a review once I finish it, but it’s a hefty book so it may be a while.
