For those of you who are from the great state of Indiana or who just love the movie “Hoosiers,” have I got a story for you.

Just got back from watching my alma mater (Bluffton High School — go Tigers!) take on our inter-county rival, the Norwell Knights.

First quarter was a defensive struggle — Norwell took two minutes off the clock on the opening possession. Second quarter — Norwell starts out with the ball and one of their players stands holding the ball for 7 minutes and 40 seconds (nobody moved to make an offensive play, and the Tigers just stayed man on man, defending Norwell’s non-offense). Norwell finally ran out the half by taking a shot, drawing a foul, and going to the free throw line.

One quarter (8 minutes), one team keeping possession the entire time.

I have never seen anything like that…the crowd was yelling like crazy. Tiger fans were yelling “Nice offense” (sarcastically) and the Knights were yelling “Great defense.” The Bluffton student section walked out at one point (and they were a sight to see themselves — half of them were wearing togas) and walked up to the second level of the gym. Everyone was on their feet yelling at someone.

The score at the half? Norwell 7, Bluffton 2.

Clearly, this makes the case for why the Indiana High School Athletic Association should amend the rules and require a shot clock in HS b-ball. This game was unreal. And although the Tigers trailed by about 8 to 20 at one point, they came back and made the game exciting. Norwell ending up winning, 22 to 21.

I have never been to a more interesting/fun game. I am still hoarse from screaming at the ref and cheering on the valiant Tigers!
