It’s time for weekly small group wins!
Just an update on the Spring Semester: We have 61 groups!! I am absolutely amazed at the awesome opportunities people will have to plug in next semester. Our groups include everything from inductive Bible studies and Alpha to health and nutrition, church history, photography, missions, Muslim-Christian relations, and spiritual disciplines. There will be a group for writers and for artists. And for the first time in NCC history, there will be a Youth Group! It’s going to be a great semester.
In addition, we will be introducing our discipleship map and our new magazine:
NATIONALCommunity ChurchGEOGRAPHIC
Our group had a great community-building experience during our outreach project last night at Food and Friends, an organization that prepares, packages and delivers meals and groceries to people living with HIV/AIDS and other life-challenging illnesses in the DC area. I think it was pretty cool that the slot we ended up getting at last minute was on World Aids Day, too! Not only did we learn about the important services this organization provides to people in the DC area, but I think group members really enjoyed learning more about each other while improving our veggie-chopping skills, too! John H. announced this project to his group and four individuals, many of whom have not been able to regularly make John’s Tuesday night group, showed up for this event. They were relatively new to DC and to NCC and so it was really a blessing to see connections being created between these “newbies” and the “old-timers” from the Thursday night social justice group.

Joseph-
This is great! The first NCC Outreach I ever participated in was with Food and Friends. That was way back in 1998! Thanks so much for sharing. For those of you who may not be familiar with Food and Friends, check them out here: http://www.foodandfriends.org.
Keep up the great work, Joseph!

I visited the Ballston Greenhouse group this past week because Alan Alvarez (CG leader) was sharing his testimony. It was SO challenging to hear how God is currently working in Alan’s life and to hear specifics about his own “Wild Goose Chase”, as PM says. It’s awesome to see the transparency that leaders are sharing with their group members!

The discussion about Food and Friends reminds me of the days back in 1998 when I used to volunteer there one morning a week w/ Amy Womack!
The Alpha and Beta teams have been doing a great job this semester — relationships are being built and in general many great things are happening. I’m happy to report that they’re both going as a group to the Narnia movie next week and excited to be participating in the Angel Tree project.
Both groups are finishing next week, so please keep them in your prayers as this is a critical time of sheparding the guests (who aren’t currently plugged in anywhere else) onto the next step.
